Frequently Asked Questions

If you are looking for a tree removal service for your property, whether you are a homeowner or an establishment, it is crucial to understand the basics about trimming, pruning, and uprooting of trees. Only with adequate information, you could safely embark on the task of shaping your garden without causing damage to the landscape. Answered here are a few commonly asked questions around tree service.
What services do you specialize in?
Okay so we try and keep it as simple as possible. We love and work with trees! Our primary goal is to always protect them, however, we do tree removal, stump removal and grinding, tree maintenance and fertilization, limb and branch cutting and tree pruning. Anything tree related we most probably have encountered it and can handle it.

What service area do you cover?
Our primary coverage is in the city of Pickering. We do travel east to Ajax and Whitby. We do not cover Scarborough and the city of Toronto.

What are the key steps in tree removal?
  • Tree removal is carried out in seven easy steps.
  • The area around the tree is cleared to allow sufficient room for the tree to fall
  • The tree is properly examined to determine in which direction it is likely to fall
  • An escape route is prepared in case the felling goes out of hand
  • The right equipment is gathered corresponding to the size of the tree
  • An undercut at an angle of 45 degrees is made at the bottom of the side on which the tree is expected to fall
  • The back-cut begins on the opposite side of the undercut
  • The tree removal specialists get out of the way through the escape route to allow the tree to fall

Is summer a good time to prune trees?
It is best to prune or trim any time between late fall and early spring. There are three primary reasons behind selecting this time of the year as mentioned below.
  1. Between fall and spring, trees grow at a bare minimum rate, hence pruning or removing them does not interfere with any future growth prospects
  2. Leaves are barely there during winter, making it easier for an arborist to maneuver between branches
  3. Diseases spread less obtrusively during this time, and hence it is simpler to identify and separate a sick tree from the rest of the garden

What determines your tree removal pricing?
While the average tree removal price could range between $400 and $3000, there are a few factors as below that could help you determine the final amount you would need to shell out.
  • Height of the tree - shorter trees are typically charged less
  • Condition of the tree including infestations, dangerous leans, cavities, weak branches, etc.
  • Dead tree, removing which usually costs lesser than removing a live tree
  • Diameter - thicker trees typically are costlier to remove
  • Location - removing trees from open areas could cost significantly less than trees in congested areas with power or telecommunication lines running through them

What is the Emerald Ash Borer?
The emerald ash borer is a common threat to ash trees with infestations killing tens of millions of trees in the northern United States and Canada regions. It is a small, green insect, about half an inch in length, which emerges in warm summer months, from eggs laid in the previous season. These eggs destroy the tree's ability to transport water and food through its branches by feeding right beneath the bark. Over time, bark-splitting occurs resulting in untimely destruction of the entire ash forest as the infestation spreads.

What are the benefits of pruning a tree?
The pruning of a tree has several benefits. The important ones are as below.
  • Healthy tree - this is the primary benefit of tree pruning as the process removes decaying or diseased leaves and branches
  • Look of the tree - if you want your garden to be bright green and flourishing at its peak season, pruning is a must as it removes overgrown branches
  • Sufficient light - without pruning, too many unwanted branches block your trees from getting enough sunlight, which is mandatory for growth
  • Avoids hazards - by maintaining shapely branches, accidents such as an overlap with power lines could be avoided
  • Shapes up - with regular pruning, the branch structure of trees improve, providing a neat look to your garden

What are the factors that affect how much a tree removal project will cost?
Total tree removal includes various steps such as pruning, stump removal, chipping, and so on. Here are a few factors that might affect the cost of the entire project.
  • Condition of the tree - this includes the height, width, health, and accessibility of the tree
  • Stump removal - stump removal costs are additional depending on the diameter, and whether it is removed or ground down
  • Fallen tree removal - this could be part of the project or a standalone project, but removing fallen trees costs a bit lesser than removing standing trees
  • Chipping or trimming - trimming and pruning cost between $175 and $1000 depending on the tree size. Chipping of branches usually costs less at around $100 to $250 (estimates)

What is stump grinding and do I need this service when removing a tree?
Stump grinding is a process carried out after tree removal in which machinery is used to grind the stump at the ground level or below it. It leaves only sawdust as residue. It is not mandatory to get this service while removing a tree, and you choose to go for a stump removal instead. However, stump grinding is an easier process, less expensive, and does not require filling the hole the tree removal would otherwise have left. You should opt for stump removal only if the stump is diseased and/or you fear regrowth from the remaining roots.

When must I consider cutting down a tree?
If you are unsure of whether it is time for a tree to go, look for the signs mentioned below.
  • Infestation or disease - if you identify any pests that cannot be cured by pesticides, or signs of a disease spreading rapidly through the branches, it is time for the tree to be felled
  • Invasive roots or branches - roots that grow horizontally could, over time, invade into other properties or pipes and communication lines. Similarly, overhanging branches could destroy property during storms or other natural occurrences. In both scenarios, it is best to opt for tree removal
  • Incompatible tree - if you have naively chosen a tree that does not grow well in the region or the climate, it is best to let it go rather than invest your time and effort on something that anyway will not survive.

Okay I think you have answered all my questions what do I do now….
Now that you have the background knowledge of how and why tree removal must be carried out, do not hesitate to call for a professional tree removal service that caters to your special requirements for a healthier and more attractive garden.
